29th June Manager Kevin Blackwell has welcomed striker Billy Sharp's decision to turn down a move to Championship rivals Burnley. Burnley had an undisclosed offer for Sharp accepted by the Blades as they plan for life following relegation from the Premier League. Sharp's future has been the subject of conjecture after he spent last season on loan at Doncaster, but he will not be heading to Turf Moor. Blackwell said: "Burnley made an acceptable offer but the move didn't seem quite right to Billy. "He's a great lad and playing for the Blades means so much to him but that desire to succeed for his hometown club can be a bit of a burden for him to carry at times because everyone knows he wants to do well here. "No manager likes to lose good players and if he does decide to stay he can only make our squad stronger in a tough and unrelenting division in which quality and strength in depth count for so much."

11th June United have signed out-of-contract midfielder Leon Britton from Swansea after he turned down a new contract at the Liberty Stadium. The 27-year-old, who joined the Swans back in 2003, turned down offers from Premier League clubs in favour of a move to Bramall Lane and has agreed a three-year deal with the option of a further year. He commented "There was interest from the Premiership and I spoke to a couple of people there but it wasn't right for me - Sheffield United was. "First and foremost this is a massive club, you only have to look at the average attendance last season. I was here with Swansea for the penultimate game and the special atmosphere from that day is still fresh in my mind." United manager Kevin Blackwell added: "It has been a protracted process because it started after we played Sheffield Wednesday in mid-April when we had arranged to meet in the hotel and I began preliminary talks with him. "Leon is a player of real quality, the sort we have missed at this club since the days when we had Stuart McCall and Michael Brown in the middle of the park."

9th June The Blades have snapped up the versatile Johannes Ertl on a two-year contract following his departure from Crystal Palace. Ertl was out of contract at Selhurst Park and has opted to join the club's Championship rivals United on a deal until 2012. The Austria international spent two seasons at Palace and scored once in 53 appearances for the club after his move from Austria Vienna. He can play in defence and midfield, and Blades manager Kevin Blackwell is looking forward to having the 27-year-old in his squad next season. "He's a good lad who can do a very solid job at right-back, central midfield and even at centre-half," Blackwell commented. "And he has played enough times in the Championship for me to know he can come in and do it for us here.

7th June Richard Cresswell has become the latest player to agree a new deal with Sheffield United. The 32-year-old striker has signed a three-year contract at Bramall Lane after Chris Morgan and Nick Montgomery pledged their commitment to the Blades earlier this week. Cresswell, who arrived in South Yorkshire from Stoke, netted 14 goals in 30 outings for Kevin Blackwell's side last term. "I'm very pleased to get it sorted," he said. "It's a boost for the club that players are committing themselves. "I am pleased to see Morgs and Monty sign new deals - it helped me make the decision to sign."

7th June QPR have completed the signing of goalkeeper Paddy Kenny from Sheffield United on a three-year deal. The move will be the third time Kenny has linked up with Neil Warnock, who managed the shot-stopper previously during their respective spells at the Blades and Bury. Warnock has paid £750,000 for the 32-year-old's services and marks a new start for the Republic of Ireland international after spending eight years at the Lane. Kenny's career looked to be in peril last year after he received a nine-month ban for testing positive for a banned substance, which restricted him from playing all but two matches for United last season.

3rd June Malta striker Daniel Bogdanovic has agreed to join United when his contract with Barnsley expires on June 30. The 30-year-old, who scored 14 goals for the Reds last season, has penned a two-year-deal with the Blades, who he has been talking to since the end of the Championship campaign. "I am coming here for footballing reasons," said Bogdanovic. "I am not financially driven and I had better offers from other clubs but I chose United ahead of those clubs because of their potential and ambition. "I am really looking forward with anticipation to the forthcoming season." Bogdanovic, who spent his formative years playing in Malta, has also represented Cisco Roma and Lokomotiv Sofia.

2nd June Nick Montgomery has given United a boost by signing a new three-year contract at The Lane.

The 28-year-old has been rewarded for a fine season with the Championship side having walked away with the club's player of the year award and players' player of the year award at the end of the campaign.

There had been talk of an approach from Montgomery's hometown club Leeds, but the long-serving Blades favourite has penned a new deal, much to the delight of United's chief executive Trevor Birch. "Nick is one of the players who, like (captain) Chris Morgan, we see as being part of the backbone of the squad for next season," he said. "He brings valuable experience for Kevin Blackwell and his contract signing is another significant step forward by the club as it seeks to mould a squad to mount a sustained challenge in the Championship."
