29th June Andy Liddell has signed for Oldham Athletic after securing his release from The Lane. Neil Warnock commented: "Andy did well for us last season, but by letting him go it will free up some wages to bring in other players as well as Craig Short". Liddell scored six goals in 39 league and cup games after joining from Wigan Athletic last summer which included a brace in a 3-1 win over Aston Villa in the FA Cup. Blades fans wish him all the best for the future.

 

29th June The Blades have won the race to secure the services of Blackburn Rovers defender Craig Short. The 37-year-old, who has been released by the Lancashire club, has signed a one-year deal with United. The deal will be officially completed on 1 August. Commenting on the signing, Neil Warnock said: "I'm delighted to get Craig, I've known him for a long time and know exactly what he can offer us. Warnock has been keen to add experience and leadership to his squad and Short will provide those qualities. The centre-half began his professional career at Scarborough under Warnock and followed the United manager to Notts County before moves to Derby County, Everton and Blackburn.

 

23rd June The Blades will launch their new Championship promotion campaign with the visit of Leicester City on 6 August. United then travel to Burnley and QPR for their next two matches, Unitedites will have to wait until 3 December before the derby match against Wednesday. The Blades are also at home to Norwich on Boxing Day followed by a long trip down to Southampton.

 

21st June United today told the Premiership vultures circling around the Lane. Phil Jagielka is not for sale. According to the Sunday newspapers and various websites; West Ham are ready to offer £3 million for the Blades star. But, Blades boss Neil Warnock, today denied any knowledge of an approach and reassured Unitedites that the 22 year-old would not be sacrificed to fund his recruitment drive.

 

18th June United have turned down a £150,000 bid by Oldham Athletic for striker Luke Beckett. Beckett scored six goals in nine games during a loan spell at Boundary Park at the end of last season. In the meantime, United are continuing to be linked with an ever increasing number of possible signings. Amongst those mentioned are Nicky Forster of Reading, Stephen McPhail of Barnsley, Alan Lee of Cardiff and now Alex John Baptiste of Mansfield. Neil Warnock is becoming more irritated and frustrated by the list of names being linked with the Lane. Speaking to The Star; He commented: "It seems people are just using me. Every day there seems to be someone new coming to us. Nicky Forster at Reading is one and we have no interest in him. I was supposed to be after Stephen McPhail of Barnsley and Alan Lee of Cardiff but I have no interest in them."

 

15th June United are refusing to give up the chase for Watford hitman Heidar Helguson. The Blades lodged an official bid for the highly rated forward eariler this month, but it was rejected by Watford. However, United vice-chairman Terry Robinson has admitted their attempts to bring the Iceland international to Bramall Lane are not over yet. "We have made an offer to Watford for Helguson and at this moment they have chosen not to act on it. But the bid is still in," he commented.

 

14th June Danny Cadamarteri has returned to Bradford City. The striker had his contract terminated at Bramall Lane and immediately agreed a move back to his home-town club. The 25-year-old is the first of seven players placed on the transfer list by boss Neil Warnock at the end of the season to leave the club. Cadamarteri had struggled to hold down a regular place in United's first-team line-up after recovering from an ankle injury sustained in March.

 

11th June Reading striker Nicky Forster refuse to comment over speculation linking him with a move to the Lane. 'Fozzy' as he was nicknamed at The Madjeski Stadium has rejected the offer of a new 12-month contract and revealed that three Championship clubs were interested in him. Blackpool manager Colin Hendry has revealed the club are unlikely to sign Blades striker Luke Beckett despite agreeing a fee for the player. Beckett, who earns around £2,000 a week, is among several players who can leave the Lane. He had a loan spell at Oldham; towards the end of last season. Bradford City manager Colin Todd has chosen not to re-sign forward Danny Cadamarteri. The 25-year-old was transfer listed by United and it had been thought that Todd would move to bring Cadamarteri back to the club he left in July 2004. Burnley manager Steve Cotterill looks set for a reunion with Stoke skipper Clive Clarke, beating competition from United. Cotterill is in the hunt for a left-back and Clarke could be tempted to rejoin the former Potters boss at Turf Moor.

 

7th June Derek Geary has signed a new contract with United for an unspecified period. Blades boss Neil Warnock commented: "The new deal is a reward for an excellent contribution last season. Derek has made himself an important member of the squad and I see plenty more to come from him." Geary signed for United from Stockport County last season and scored his first professional goal in December when he scored the winner at Millwall.

 

6th June Midfielder Alan Quinn has agreed an extension to his current deal, while younger brother Stephen has accepted his first professional contract with the club after impressing last season in the reserves. The Blades have turned down a offer from Burnley for Nick Montgomery. The Blades midfielder is believed to be among one several targets of Clarets boss Steve Cotterill. Coventy City's Micky Adams is interested in signing Blades centre-half Danny Cullip. Neil Warnock is believed to be interested in taking striker Stern John in exchange for Cullip who is out of favour at the Lane. Watford manager Adrian Boothroyd is expected to hold talks with sought-after striker Heidar Helguson this week. The Hornets have already turned down a £1m-plus bid from the Blades last week, who hit 20 goals last season. The Watford boss remains determined to keep the 27-year-old, who has been offered a new, improved three-year deal.

 

3rd June Watford have rejected a £1m-plus bid from United for top scorer Heidar Helguson. Only 24 hours after turning down an offer from Sunderland, the Hornets have now rebuffed an enquiry from the Blades. Helguson's contract expires next summer and sereral clubs have been chasing the marksman who scored 20 goals last season. Had the fee been agreed, it would have paved the way for Helguson to line up alongside former team mate Danny Webber, who signed for the Blades this week. West Ham are also known to be interested in signing the Icelandic International.

 

2nd June United have transfer-listed 7 first team players. Neil Warnock is making sweeping changes to his squad for next seasons’ promotion challenge and it was thought that several players would be released. The players transfer listed are Rob Kozluk, Nick Montgomery, Andy Liddell, Danny Cadamarteri, Paul Shaw, Paul Thirlwell and Luke Beckett. The biggest shock is the inclusion of Nick Montgomery and Andy Liddell. Montgomery has been an integral part of the Blades ‘engine room’ in midfield is the surprise inclusion in the list. Liddell has also been a crowd favourite at the Lane with his attacking wing play and top quality crossing. The Blades boss explaining his reasons for the listings said: "It doesn't necessarily mean that these lads will immediately leave. But we cannot guarantee them first-team football and would like to make clubs aware they are available. They still form part of the squad but may be sacrificed to bring in other new players or talented youngsters."

 

1st June United have completed the signing of Danny Webber from Championship rivals Watford for £500,000. The striker has agreed personal terms with the Blades and has penned a three-year deal, after spending time on loan at the Lane last season. "I've already found out what a great club this is and after seeing the calibre of the other signings I can't wait to get started again," he said. "I'm so pleased that Danny has finally signed," said manager Neil Warnock. Webber scored three goals in seven appearances for United after joining on loan in March. He scored 12 times for Watford before joining the Blades.
