29th
June Andy Liddell has signed for Oldham Athletic
after securing his release from The Lane. Neil Warnock commented:
"Andy did well for us last season, but by letting him go it
will free up some wages to bring in other players as well as Craig
Short". Liddell scored six goals in 39 league and cup games
after joining from Wigan Athletic last summer which included a brace
in a 3-1 win over Aston Villa in the FA Cup. Blades fans wish him
all the best for the future.
29th June The Blades have won the race to secure the services of Blackburn
Rovers defender Craig Short. The 37-year-old, who has been released
by the Lancashire club, has signed a one-year deal with United.
The deal will be officially completed on 1 August. Commenting on
the signing, Neil Warnock said: "I'm delighted to get Craig,
I've known him for a long time and know exactly what he can offer
us. Warnock has been keen to add experience and leadership to his
squad and Short will provide those qualities. The centre-half began
his professional career at Scarborough under Warnock and followed
the United manager to Notts County before moves to Derby County,
Everton and Blackburn.
23rd June The Blades will launch their new Championship promotion campaign
with the visit of Leicester City on 6 August. United then travel
to Burnley and QPR for their next two matches, Unitedites will have
to wait until 3 December before the derby match against Wednesday.
The Blades are also at home to Norwich on Boxing Day followed by
a long trip down to Southampton.
21st June United today told the Premiership vultures circling around the Lane.
Phil Jagielka is not for sale. According to the Sunday newspapers
and various websites; West Ham are ready to offer £3 million
for the Blades star. But, Blades boss Neil Warnock, today denied
any knowledge of an approach and reassured Unitedites that the 22
year-old would not be sacrificed to fund his recruitment drive.
18th June United have turned down a £150,000 bid by Oldham Athletic
for striker Luke Beckett. Beckett scored six goals in nine games
during a loan spell at Boundary Park at the end of last season.
In the meantime, United are continuing to be linked with an ever
increasing number of possible signings. Amongst those mentioned
are Nicky Forster of Reading, Stephen McPhail of Barnsley, Alan
Lee of Cardiff and now Alex John Baptiste of Mansfield. Neil Warnock
is becoming more irritated and frustrated by the list of names being
linked with the Lane. Speaking to The Star; He commented: "It
seems people are just using me. Every day there seems to be someone
new coming to us. Nicky Forster at Reading is one and we have no
interest in him. I was supposed to be after Stephen McPhail of Barnsley
and Alan Lee of Cardiff but I have no interest in them."
15th June United are refusing to give up the chase for Watford hitman Heidar
Helguson. The Blades lodged an official bid for the highly rated
forward eariler this month, but it was rejected by Watford. However,
United vice-chairman Terry Robinson has admitted their attempts
to bring the Iceland international to Bramall Lane are not over
yet. "We have made an offer to Watford for Helguson and at
this moment they have chosen not to act on it. But the bid is still
in," he commented.
14th June Danny Cadamarteri has returned to Bradford City. The striker had
his contract terminated at Bramall Lane and immediately agreed a
move back to his home-town club. The 25-year-old is the first of
seven players placed on the transfer list by boss Neil Warnock at
the end of the season to leave the club. Cadamarteri had struggled
to hold down a regular place in United's first-team line-up after
recovering from an ankle injury sustained in March.
11th June Reading striker Nicky Forster refuse to comment over speculation
linking him with a move to the Lane. 'Fozzy' as he was nicknamed
at The Madjeski Stadium has rejected the offer of a new 12-month
contract and revealed that three Championship clubs were interested
in him. Blackpool manager Colin Hendry has revealed the club are
unlikely to sign Blades striker Luke Beckett despite agreeing a
fee for the player. Beckett, who earns around £2,000 a week,
is among several players who can leave the Lane. He had a loan spell
at Oldham; towards the end of last season. Bradford City manager
Colin Todd has chosen not to re-sign forward Danny Cadamarteri.
The 25-year-old was transfer listed by United and it had been thought
that Todd would move to bring Cadamarteri back to the club he left
in July 2004. Burnley manager Steve Cotterill looks set for a reunion
with Stoke skipper Clive Clarke, beating competition from United.
Cotterill is in the hunt for a left-back and Clarke could be tempted
to rejoin the former Potters boss at Turf Moor.
7th June Derek Geary has signed a new contract with United for an unspecified
period. Blades boss Neil Warnock commented: "The new deal is
a reward for an excellent contribution last season. Derek has made
himself an important member of the squad and I see plenty more to
come from him." Geary signed for United from Stockport County
last season and scored his first professional goal in December when
he scored the winner at Millwall.
6th June Midfielder Alan Quinn has agreed an extension to his current deal,
while younger brother Stephen has accepted his first professional
contract with the club after impressing last season in the reserves.
The Blades have turned down a offer from Burnley for Nick Montgomery.
The Blades midfielder is believed to be among one several targets
of Clarets boss Steve Cotterill. Coventy City's Micky Adams is interested
in signing Blades centre-half Danny Cullip. Neil Warnock is believed
to be interested in taking striker Stern John in exchange for Cullip
who is out of favour at the Lane. Watford manager Adrian Boothroyd
is expected to hold talks with sought-after striker Heidar Helguson
this week. The Hornets have already turned down a £1m-plus
bid from the Blades last week, who hit 20 goals last season. The
Watford boss remains determined to keep the 27-year-old, who has
been offered a new, improved three-year deal.
3rd June Watford have rejected a £1m-plus bid from United for top scorer
Heidar Helguson. Only 24 hours after turning down an offer from
Sunderland, the Hornets have now rebuffed an enquiry from the Blades.
Helguson's contract expires next summer and sereral clubs have been
chasing the marksman who scored 20 goals last season. Had the fee
been agreed, it would have paved the way for Helguson to line up
alongside former team mate Danny Webber, who signed for the Blades
this week. West Ham are also known to be interested in signing the
Icelandic International.
2nd June United have transfer-listed 7 first team players. Neil Warnock is
making sweeping changes to his squad for next seasons’ promotion
challenge and it was thought that several players would be released.
The players transfer listed are Rob Kozluk, Nick Montgomery, Andy
Liddell, Danny Cadamarteri, Paul Shaw, Paul Thirlwell and Luke Beckett.
The biggest shock is the inclusion of Nick Montgomery and Andy Liddell.
Montgomery has been an integral part of the Blades ‘engine
room’ in midfield is the surprise inclusion in the list. Liddell
has also been a crowd favourite at the Lane with his attacking wing
play and top quality crossing. The Blades boss explaining his reasons
for the listings said: "It doesn't necessarily mean that these
lads will immediately leave. But we cannot guarantee them first-team
football and would like to make clubs aware they are available.
They still form part of the squad but may be sacrificed to bring
in other new players or talented youngsters."
1st June United have completed the signing of Danny Webber from Championship
rivals Watford for £500,000. The striker has agreed personal
terms with the Blades and has penned a three-year deal, after spending
time on loan at the Lane last season. "I've already found out
what a great club this is and after seeing the calibre of the other
signings I can't wait to get started again," he said. "I'm
so pleased that Danny has finally signed," said manager Neil
Warnock. Webber scored three goals in seven appearances for United
after joining on loan in March. He scored 12 times for Watford before
joining the Blades.
