28th July The Blades have released winger Peter Ndlovu from his contract. The Zimbabwean international had a year to run on his current deal. Manager Neil Warnock commented: "Obviously I need to bring players in and releasing Peter will help me in that direction, I believe Peter has had a good offer from South Africa, which I think he will take. I'd like to thank him for some great moments, but I think he'll agree he didn't have the best of seasons last year." Ndlovu scored 29 goals in 130 starts for the Blades.

27th July The Blades have completed the signing of Paul Thirlwell. The former Sunderland midfielder has signed a 2 year contract with United. Thirlwell was with the Blades on their tour of Cornwall earlier this month and impressed manager Neil Warnock with his performances, commenting about Thirlwell he said "Paul is not a big name but he goes about his job the right way and he will do well for us. We already have a lot of flair in the team and you do need what I call a manager's player, he will give us a steadying influence in the middle of the park. Paul has already fitted in well with the rest of the players - the likes of Tongey and Jags took him under their wing in Cornwall."

25th July Nearly 9,000 turned out to see the Blades beat Jacques Santini's Tottenham side in a friendly match at Bramall Lane today. Goals from Jon Harley and Jonathan Forte helped United to a 2-1 win over their London opponents.

23rd July Michael Brown will miss Tottenham's trip to Bramall Lane with a knee injury. United play Spurs’ in a pre-season friendly on Sunday afternoon. Unfortunately, Brown suffered the problem during Tottenham's friendly draw against FC Copenhagen last week, and is disappointed not playing against his former club this weekend. He said “I'm disappointed; I've been looking forward to this game for a long time. But I've got to look longer-term and it's not worth the risk. It's still a little sore anyway, and realistically I've got to make sure it's right. I'm running again but kicking the ball is a problem at the moment. I'm travelling anyway and will do a bit of work with the physio and fitness coach. I'll be at the game whatever”

22nd July Neil Warnock says that he will not be offering a contract to Steve Howey. The former England defender joined United on the tour to Cornwall but did not feature in the friendly match with Bodmin Town. Warnock explained his reasons "Steve was pencilled in for another run out against Bodmin but circumstances forced a change and we moved Jags (Jagielka) across to central defence and brought in Francis. Steve is a bit short of fitness and wouldn't be ready for the start of the season. I had a chat with him and we both thought it would be silly to risk him for half a game when he has a contract offer in America."

21st July Transfer listed Paul Shaw has turned down a move to League One outfit Doncaster Rovers. United had accepted a bid of around £100,000 from Rovers for Shaw, but the 29-year-old was reluctant to move down a division. Blades vice chairman Terry Robinson commented "There were preliminary discussions with Doncaster and a price was mentioned but Paul wants to see if a Championship club comes in for him. We are disappointed because it was a good offer and we are also disappointed for Doncaster because he would have done well for them but it's Paul's right to turn it down."

19th July Former England defender Steve Howey has linked up with United for pre-season training in Cornwall. The former Newcastle and Manchester City defender is without a club after being released by Bolton Wanderers last season. He said "I have been released and have been training on my own so when Neil asked me to train with United to see what happens I jumped at the chance, I have been out to the States and trained with Boston over there and might consider playing for them, but my preference is to stay in the game here". With Robert Page leaving the Lane to join Cardiff, Howey may be seen as the ideal replacement by manager Neil Warnock.

17th July Boss Neil Warnock was pleased with trialist Paul Thirlwell's display in a friendly match with Weymouth last night. Former Sunderland midfielder Thirlwell, who made just under 100 appearances for the Black Cats, was released by boss Mick McCarthy at the end of last season and the 25-year-old has linked up with the Blades squad for their pre-season tour of Cornwall. Speaking about the performance Warnock said. "I thought Paul fitted in well and several players had their first half hour of action of the season. It was nice to see both the strikers that started (Andy Gray and Barry Hayles) getting on the score sheet before coming off. I didn't think there was enough work up front from us in the opening half and we spoke about that at the break. Afterwards we did a bit more."

14th July Paul Shaw is the latest player to be put on the transfer list. The Blades have a plethora of strikers and his opportunities look certain to be restricted with the competition for starting places next season. Shaw generally feels that things have not worked out since he joined United last season and Neil Warnock agreed "He feels, and I agree, that his opportunities will be restricted this season. Paul is a good pro but for one reason or another it has not worked out." Shaw joins striker Peter Ndlovu on the transfer list.

10th July Andy Parkinson has completed a permanent move to Grimsby Town after signing a two-year deal at Blundell Park. The 25-year-old striker made only three appearances for the Blades and had two loan spells at Notts County last season.

9th July Blades boss Neil Warnock has refused to rule out the possibility of him making more new signings before the start of the new season. He said: "You can never say never when you talk about new signings but I'm waiting to see how pre-season goes. We are short in a couple of areas. We all know we haven't got a big wage bill but the Board have given me a lot of help."

6th July Neil Warnock has appointed centre-half Chris Morgan as captain for next season. The Blades player-of-the-year takes over the skipper's armband following the recent departure of Robert Page to Cardiff City, "Chris was the obvious choice and all the lads agreed, He is a leader and well-respected in the dressing room." said Warnock.

2nd July Robert Page has joined Cardiff City. The Welsh central defender will put pen to paper on a two-year deal pending a medical at Ninian Park. "This move is a dream come true for me," said 29-year-old Page. "Ever since the age of 10 when I first had a training session with the club, I thought of playing for Cardiff City at some stage". Page was the team captain last season, and will be
