30th
June Neil Warnock has
been charged with two counts of misconduct by the Football Association.
The first charge relates to allegations Warnock brought the game
into disrepute with comments about referee Graham Poll following
the FA Cup semi-final against Arsenal. The second charge relates
to allegations he was guilty of improper conduct and using insulting
and/or abusive words in comments made towards referee Steve Bennett
at half-time during the Play-off final against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Warnock has 14 days to respond to the charges.
28th June Neil Warnock has conceded his transfer dealings are dependent
on the future of Peter Ndlovu. Ndlovu put in some impressive performances
last season for the Blades, but has yet to agree to his new contract.
Ndlovu will be offered substantially reduced terms if he accepts
the deal, as United try to keep their wage bill down. Warnock said
"I won't rush into anything, Partly because most of the transfer
dealings will be done after existing contracts totally expire at
the end of the month. I'm looking to sign three or four which does
depend on whether Ndlovu re-signs or not". If Ndlovu decides
to quit the club on a free transfer, Warnock could turn to Tranmere
Rovers winger Andy Parkinson as a replacement.
25th June The Blades are hoping to announce Neil Warnock's new number
two before the squad return for pre-season training on 7th July.
Neil Warnock is looking for a "young and enthusiastic"
coach to succeed Kevin Blackwell at Bramall Lane. Warnock said "Quite
a few people have put their names forward, but I know the type of
person I want, I want someone young enough, with plenty of enthusiasm,
who will gain the respect of the players. He won't necessarily be
experienced at the job, but he must know the game, be a decent coach
and have played at a decent level. He must be someone I enjoy working
with".
20th June New Goalkeeper Kristian Rogers has proved his commitment to the
Blades cause by taking a massive cut in wages to push through his
move to the Lane. Rogers was wanted by Swansea City and was offered
a better package but he chose the Blades. United now have 3 goalkeepers
, Paddy Kenny, Ben Scott and Rogers. Meanwhile, Neil Warnock has
given up the chase for Derby forward Lee Morris. Warnock conceded
it was unlikely the club could match Morris's wage demands and he
has switched his attention instead to Alan Wright, who was recently
released by Aston Villa.
20th June United have terminated the contract of striker Dean Windass by mutual
consent. Windass has decided not to take up the option of a further
year at the Lane and based decision his fall out with Neil Warnock
before last season's play-off final. He said, "I was very disappointed
by not playing in the final. Me and Neil had a bit of a disagreement
at the start of it and it all came out. I know Neil's an outspoken
person and he knows I am. I just felt I couldn't trust Neil any
more. I had an option to sign for another year, and I've decided
not to take that option up."
19th June Stuart McCall
has promised to make the most of his last season as a player at
The Lane. McCall will sign on for another 12 months with the Blades
after forging a highly effective midfield partnership with Tonge,
Brown and Montgomery.
The Blades have signed former Wrexham goalkeeper Kristian Rogers.
Rogers was released by the Welsh club at the end of last season.
Rogers will provide cover for Paddy Kenny.
18th June Neil Warnock has hinted he may be interested
in a return for Derby striker Lee Morris. Morris, a £3m signing
for the Rams from United in October 1999, has turned down the Pride
Park club's initial offer of a new one-year deal. Morris is scheduled
for more talks with newly-appointed Rams manager George Burley later
this week but in the meantime, Blades boss Warnock has admitted
23-year-old Morris is a player he admires. Warnock said "We'd
be interested if he wanted to come here but I can't see us being
able to match the wages on offer at Derby, I'd think they'd offer
him more money than us, I like Lee as a player, also as a person
and just like me, he's a red-hot Blades fan. But there's been no
contact between our club and Derby County at all".
15th June The Blades
could make their first transfer signing of the summer after talks
with former Aston Villa defender, Alan Wright. Wright is available
on a 'free' after being released by Villa at the end of last season.
Wright has already made contact with United aimed at securing a
move to the Lane.
10th June Rob Kozluk
has signed a new two-year contract and is now committed to the Lane
until 2005. Kozluk played a major role in the Blades promotion challenge
last season, and Kozluk has refused to push for a move, preferring
to remain loyal to manager Neil Warnock and the Blades.
8th June The Blades
could gamble on going into next season with just one senior goalkeeper.
Neil Warnock, trying to keep a lid on a wage bill of just over £3
million a season, reckons the money could be better spent elsewhere.
And, after releasing veteran Simon Tracey at the end of last season,
that would leave Paddy Kenny as the only experienced shot-stopper
on the club's books. Warnock, who refused to name a substitute goalkeeper
throughout much of the previous campaign, said: "With our current
wage bill, we cannot really justify paying two first-team wages
for goalkeepers. We feel we can get by with one, although we are
aware we will have to have something up our sleeve in the event
of injury to Paddy."
7th June Kevin Blackwell
has quit his post at Bramall Lane to become head coach at Leeds
and Peter Reid's assistant. Blackwell's decision ends his 17-year
partnership with Warnock, which first saw them link-up at Scarborough.
Blackwell, who replaces Brian Kidd at Elland Road, had two years
of his contract left to run.
6th June The Blades
will not let the premiership vultures steel their best players.
That’s the message from Neil Warnock as United look to the
new season and another attempt at promotion. The Blades will be
one of the favorites next season; and if they can keep the nucleus
of last season's team together they should be pushing for promotion
again. Some reports say that a Midlands club is to offer £2m
for Phil Jagielka, But Blades boss Neil Warnock said: "We have
had no offers for any of our players whatsoever and can assure fans
we will not consider any bids we regard as derisory. The sorts of
bids that have been bandied about in the media are nowhere near
our valuation of our players - even if we were willing to sell."
1st June Neil Warnock
is looking to bring in at least five new players before the start
of the new season; which kicks-off in August. United have just parted
company with 18 players and Warnock is now looking to bring in better
players than he released. Warnock said "We haven’t been
far way this season so I don’t want to chop the team completely.
We are looking to bring in better players than we are letting go.
We have to work within our wage budget. There are a few players
at the club who are under contract that I may part exchange or look
to use to bring in new faces."
